Argentine Ants

Argentine AntsDescription: Argentine ants are light to dark brown. Argentine Ants can become pests when they forage in or around homes for food or water and when building nests because they displace soil.

Where are Argentine Ants Found?: Argentine Ants will usually make their nests in moist soil; around sidewalks, buildings, at the base of trees or plants and under wood or decorative rocks. They travel in trails that are often seen on the sides of buildings and up trees. They can make their way into your home via a tree that touches your house. Once inside they will find a moist area to nest, like damaged wood and wall voids. Colonies may number in the hundreds of thousands! They are urged to move inside when their outdoor nests are disturbed or searching for a food source.

How do I get rid of them and Keep them out? When treating for Argentine Ants it is important to get ALL the nests or they will return!

Treatment: Ants are one of the most common, but one of the most difficult, pests to manage. Our pest control maintenance plan will protect your home and property from ant infestations.

Fire Ants

Fire AntsDescription: Fire Ants are small with a reddish brown to reddish black body. They have stingers that cause a burning sensation when they bite, thus the name Fire Ants!

Fire ant mounds interfere with farming and mowing operations and can turn recreational fields into disfigured moonscapes. They have caused sections of roads to collapse by removing soil from under the asphalt.

What do Fire Ants eat?: These pests eat living insects and dead animals when outside. While inside they prefer fatty and sweet foods.

Where are their Nests Found?: Fire Ants build nests in the soil. Soil mounds are a sure sign they have moved on to your property. They like warm sunny areas but are less active during the hot parts of the day. They are mostly found in open fields and lawns.

Are Fire Ants Dangerous?: They are very aggressive and when the colony is threatened, they will send the entire army out to seek and destroy. Multiple bites can be a life threatening situation and cause severe reaction symptoms include sweating, nausea, pain and excessive itching, red bumps and white pustules that can leave scars. Our effective pest control maintenance plan will protect your home and family from fire ant infestations. Learn more about fire ants.

Black Widow Spider

Black Widow SpiderDescription: When these arachnoids were first discovered and being studied, it was noticed that the female would kill and consume the male after mating. Hence the name: Black Widow. The female Black Widow is most recognized by the red hour glass marking on her abdomen.

What do Black Widows Eat? Black widow spiders trap insects and other spiders in a web. They then wrap them up in silk and inject them with venom that liquefies the prey’s insides.

Where are Black Widows Found? Outside they can be found in crevices and woodpiles and inside they are found in dimly lit, secluded places like garages, basements, closets, dark corners and cluttered areas like sheds.

Are Black Widows Dangerous? The black widow is a poisonous spider and its spider bite venom is one of the most toxic in the U.S., composed of neurotoxins that affect the nervous system. Bites cause symptoms similar to the flu; aches, headaches, nausea, and in extreme cases respiratory distress.

Cockroach (German)

German CockroachDescription: Adults are light brown to tan with two small black stripes behind their heads. The nymphs are much darker.

How do German Cockroaches get in?: Usually they are brought inside unknowingly in paper bags and cardboard boxes etc. They like warm and humid areas and are most often found in kitchens and bathrooms, but will go anywhere they can find food and water.

Once German cockroaches infest a home, these pests can cause psychological stress and even alter the behavior of the residents of the home. An infestation can cause the residents to avoid the kitchen at night for fear of coming face to face with one these unwelcomed creatures. Learn more about German Cockroaches here.

What do German Cockroaches Eat?: German cockroaches will eat almost anything in a famine situation, including each other, but normally prefer meats, sugars, starches and fatty foods.

What are the Dangers and how do I get rid of them?: German cockroaches are carriers of E. coli, typhus and salmonella. When a home is infested, the droppings and dead body parts contaminate the air and the development of asthma in small children has been directly linked. In extreme infestations they may also bite causing irritation and minor infections.

Yellow Jackets

Yellow JacketDescription: Most yellow jackets species have alternating bands of black and yellow on their thin abdomens.

What do Yellow Jackets eat? They will eat other insects and suck the nectar out of fruits.

What are the Dangers and how do I get rid of them? Yellow jackets will build nests in trees, shrubs, under porches, cracks in sidewalks and in the ground. Some nests have up to 100,000 adults but normally there are 1000 – 3000 workers to a nest. Since many nests are on the ground, vibrations from lawn mowers etc can aggravate them and cause them to attack. They are often referred to as predatory wasps. They swarm and their barbed stingers can strike repeatedly, even when unprovoked. The venom is not dangerous unless multiple stings occur or if the person has an allergy to bees and wasps. The safest way to remove a nest is to call a professional.

The queen lays eggs, and her daughters feed the larvae. Later in the season, some of the larvae develop into males and some into queen bees.

Yellow Jacket and Wasp Control: Because of the potential danger of their stings, leave yellow jacket, wasp and bee treatments to a professional. Our preventative pest maintenance program guarantees control of wasps and yellow jackets.

Crickets

CricketsDescription: There are over 900 species of crickets but the two most common are house and field crickets. House crickets are usually light brown and are extremely noisy while field crickets are black.

What do Crickets eat? Crickets will eat most anything; plants and insects, grains, meats, fruits, vegetables and much more. House crickets will eat wall paper, linens and fabrics.

How do Crickets get in? Lighting attracts crickets. Field crickets usually get in by accident through an open door or window as they prefer to live outside, but on occasion will come in searching for food. The House Cricket will search for a warm place to live when the weather gets cold! All they need from us is food and water! They will enter through cracks and crevices in the structure and foundations as well as any easy openings like poorly sealed windows and doors.
