How to Prevent Cockroaches from Entering Your Moreno Valley, CA & Control Them if They Do!
Cockroaches are found in every corner of the world. They have been a pest since the beginning of time. They are one of the most persistent and one of the more difficult pests to prevent and control. Source Pest Control will cover the most common species of cockroaches found invading homes in California, and how you can prevent and control cockroaches from turning into a major infestation.
Signs of Cockroach Infestations in Houses & Apartments
Most people imagine an infestation of cockroaches as thousands of cockroaches climbing all over the walls and ceilings, and can be seen scattered across their home. This isn’t usually the case. A major infestation can occur with minimal sightings. Cockroaches will often infest a home and primarily remain inside the walls, plumbing or in dark places during the day. That is why frequent sightings are a sure sign that your home may be infested. Some other signs of a cockroach infestation are capsule shaped egg cases, droppings (which look like coffee grounds) or brownish stains around corners or cracks that cockroaches are using to navigate. Don’t just leave assessing signs of an infestation to your eyes; use your nose as well. Cockroaches will give off a nasty musty or sour odor.
To prevent cockroaches you need to seal your home off from their intrusion. You will want to make sure, especially around doorways and windows, that any openings large enough for cockroaches to enter are eliminated. It’s easier to prevent a major infestation by cleaning any clutter or areas of debris that cockroaches can breed and use for shelter.
Types of Cockroaches Found in California
American cockroach – The American cockroach is one of the larger species of cockroach. They can reach up to 1 1/2 inches long. They are a light golden bronze color and are most often found in damp, humid areas. Both male and female American cockroaches have wings and can fly short distances.
German cockroach – German cockroaches are a light brown color with two dark brown stripes going down their head and back. Like the American cockroach, German cockroaches also have wings, but they don’t fly. The German cockroach grows up to ¾ of an inch in length.
Oriental Cockroach – Oriental cockroaches are a larger species of cockroach that can reach up 1 ¼ inch in length. They are black with a greasy or shiny color to them. Often called the water bug, Oriental cockroaches are commonly found in sewer drain and in dark and highly saturated areas. The male oriental cockroaches have short stubby wings that only reach halfway down their abdomen.
Brown Banded Cockroach – The brown banded cockroach is brown with a white colored band separating their head and abdomen. They are a somewhat smaller species of cockroach that only reaches up to ½ inch in length. They are most commonly found in kitchens and restaurants.
