Pest control in San Marcos, CA
San Marcos, from San Elijo Hills up to Twin Oaks Valley, is among the 20 cities we serve from Murrieta. Jared Brown's 27 years in pest control stand behind the team that handles rats, mice, ants, spiders, earwigs, wasps and termites here.

We serve San Marcos with the team behind a 4.9 Google rating over 1,111 reviews, and rats are one of our four biggest calls. A hillside lot in San Elijo Hills with trees above it and a block wall along the side gives a roof rat a way to the attic, and Dylan Reed handles that trapping. Call (951) 535-4220.

Pests in San Marcos
San Marcos sits far enough from the coast that July through September are the warmest months, and close enough that May and June bring a cool overcast. Winter temperatures rarely fall below freezing. The hills get more rain than the valley floor, and Santa Ana winds in the fall dry everything out and raise the wildfire risk on the slopes. The late summer heat and the first winter storms are the two times a San Marcos kitchen sees ant trails, since UC IPM notes Argentine ants trail indoors in hot dry weather and after rain. Earwigs hold on in the damp hillside litter well into the dry season, then head for bathrooms and kitchens when the beds dry out. Widows build up through the warm months. Mosquitoes breed in standing water, so start with the saucers, gutters and low spots left by irrigation. Drywood and subterranean termites are both present in Southern California, so a San Marcos termite inspection covers both.

San Marcos takes its name from Los Vallecitos de San Marcos, the little valleys of St Mark, named for St Mark's Day, April 25, 1797, the date the valleys were first recorded. The city incorporated on January 28, 1963, and for most of its first century it was farm country, with dairies and poultry farms a big part of the business by the middle of the twentieth century. The 2020 census counted 94,833 residents across about 24 square miles of valley floor and hillside, with Escondido to the east, Carlsbad to the west, Vista to the northwest and Encinitas to the southwest. Highway 78 runs through the city with six interchanges. Cal State San Marcos, founded in 1989, sits on a 304-acre hillside, and the hillside letter P above Palomar College and the illuminated cross above Lake San Marcos are two of the city's best-known landmarks. Lake San Marcos itself is a county island, an unincorporated enclave inside the southwest part of the city, and we serve it along with the city around it.
What makes San Marcos different from the flat tract cities is how much of it climbs. Double Peak, south of the city, tops out at 1,646 feet, and the city's own trail from Discovery Lake Park to the summit runs 2.5 miles one way, part of a trail network the city puts at 72 miles. San Elijo Hills sits up on those slopes with Double Peak Drive running out of it, Twin Oaks Valley and Richmar are the other named areas, and San Marcos Creek runs through the Creek District, where the city's project restored about 1.5 miles of creek habitat with new trees and plants. The San Marcos Hills get up to 20 inches of rain a year against about 13 on the valley floor. UC IPM notes that roof rats live high in trees, palms and vines and travel along fences and utility lines, which is why a hillside home with trees behind it hears scratching in the ceiling at night. The wetter hills also keep the leaf litter damp into spring, which is the shelter earwigs look for, and the block walls and garages that hold the slopes back are where black widows settle. Brown widows stay outside on the patio furniture and play structures. Argentine ants follow the irrigation lines on the valley floor and the hillside streets alike.
Our office in Murrieta covers San Marcos. A plan here is monthly, every other month or quarterly, on a 12-month agreement, and on each visit the technician treats the pests you reported, clears the cobwebs from the eaves, and tells you how long to keep the kids and the dog off anything treated. One of our Google reviewers, Violeta, mentioned that she gets a text before the technician comes. Dylan Reed is the one who traps the rats and treats the termites, and Tyler Williams does the termite inspection and Wood Destroying Organism report when a San Marcos home goes into escrow. Call (951) 535-4220, Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm, and tell Jenni Lara whether you're in San Elijo Hills, Twin Oaks Valley, Richmar or on the valley floor.
What do people in San Marcos ask?
Do you do rodent control for rats and mice in San Marcos?
Yes, and Dylan Reed does it. A San Elijo Hills lot with trees above it, or a yard backing onto the restored stretch of San Marcos Creek, gives roof rats the high cover UC IPM describes, and fences and utility lines carry them to the roof. Expect traps on the slope side of the house first, then the openings sealed, with that exclusion quoted on its own. Bait, if any is used, sits in tamper-resistant bait stations. Call (951) 535-4220 and say what you've heard or found.
Do you serve Lake San Marcos?
Yes. We serve Lake San Marcos along with our 20 cities, so tell Jenni Lara you're there when you call (951) 535-4220. It's the unincorporated county island inside the southwest part of San Marcos, around the lake below the illuminated cross, with homes in the 92078 ZIP, and it gets the same ants, widows and earwigs as the rest of the city.
Which San Marcos ZIP codes do you cover?
Both delivery ZIPs, 92069 and 92078. The 92079 ZIP is a post office box ZIP and 92096 belongs to Cal State San Marcos. We cover the whole city from our Murrieta office, San Elijo Hills to Twin Oaks Valley.
What pests show up most in San Marcos homes?
Spiders, ants, rats and termites, and San Marcos has the ground for all four. The slopes and creek cover shelter rats, the wetter hills keep the leaf litter damp for earwigs, and any lot's garages and block walls hold black widows while its patio furniture holds brown widows. Ants come in with the heat and with the rain, and a termite inspection checks for both drywood and subterranean kinds.
How soon can I book a pest visit in San Marcos?
Customers who tell us why they picked us say fast response, and same-day visits are possible when the schedule allows. San Marcos homes, from San Elijo Hills down to Richmar, are booked from our Murrieta office. Call (951) 535-4220 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, describe what you're finding and where, and Jenni Lara will offer the first open time.
I have kids and a dog. What do I need to know before a visit?
Point the technician to the kids' play spots and the dog's run, whether that's the back lawn, a side yard against the slope or the patio, and you'll hear what to do, including when they can go back on the treated areas. Those times come from the product label, which the technician follows, and the technician who comes is licensed through the State of California. Families who ask what we use hear that our products carry labels for use in hospitals and daycares.
